Biomass Fuels

The key issues affecting the biomass fuel market are the reliability, quality and sustainability of material supply within the UK. Ideally positioned to meet the upcoming challenges of this rapidly expanding market, the Stobart Biomass operation is founded on extensive experience in the biomass, wood recycling and forestry sectors; enabling it to consistently provide high quality material from the smallest to the very largest volumes.

As a business, Stobart Biomass is constantly developing new biomass sources and investigating the potential of new fuel types, whether sourced with the UK or imported from Europe or further afield.

From the outset the team has been heavily involved in developing the potential of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) and Tyre Derived Fuel (TDF), as well as researching other grades of existing biomass materials such as compost oversize. Today, despite their value as an energy source, many of these materials still end up going as waste in landfill. Stobart Biomass’ ongoing trials are playing a key role in exploiting this material to reduce the UK’s waste bill and, more importantly, the
nation’s carbon footprint.

Alongside the importance of meeting volume and quality requirements, sustainability of supply is an essential consideration for the customer. Whether the material is destined for a large-scale heat and power station, or smaller facilities at commercial, industrial or public sector sites, sustainability is essential.

For customers the sustainable sourcing of biomass is a balancing act between meeting commercial andenvironmental considerations. Needless to say actual ‘cost viability’ is essential, but in addition fuel types need to be well-proven and from reliable sources; backed-up by transparency of availability - you need to know it’ll arrive when it’s needed and that it won’t cost you the earth.

The solution for the UK fuel buyer is to select a supplier with the knowledge and expertise to match your boiler’s needs; the environmental credentials to deliver on your own objectives; AND the resources to meet the requirements of your contract... Stobart Biomass has a proven track record in meeting ALL these criteria.
