59 steps is all it takes to get from the terminal at Southend Airport to the new railway station with direct services straight into London
Stobart Air is the operator of London Southend Airport, the capital’s newest international airport. In addition to providing an attractive new base for scheduled international passenger and private flights, the facility is home to numerous successful aviation businesses and subsidiary operations.
Stobart Group’s heavy investment in London Southend Airport, and the hard work of its highly experienced construction and civil engineering team, has raised the status of this ideally located regional facility to that of a fully functioning international airport in excellent time for the nearby 2012 London Olympics.
London Southend Airport is positioned on the London Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria railway line and is the only UK airport with a frequent and direct mainline rail link to the Stratford Olympic Park. The rail services operate up to eight times per hour, to Stratford in just 44 minutes and London Liverpool Street in 53 minutes.
The airport’s prestigious redevelopment includes an ultra-modern fly-through terminal building located less than 100 paces from the recently completed Stobart-owned and operated railway station.
Major civil developments at the site include the new 300m runway extension that has played a major role in attracting leading commercial passenger airlines, notably the UK’s largest carrier, easyJet which commenced flights on 2 April 2012 and Ireland’s flag carrier Aer Lingus.
Airport upgrades have been led by a new state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control Tower. Equipped with the very latest technology, it provides Air Traffic Controllers with greatly enhanced views of the runway. Installation of new dual-channel radar has also significantly improved radar coverage, making the airport and the South East’s air space even more safe and secure.
Shortly to be completed, the airport’s dedicated four star hotel will open in advance of the summer games, providing high quality accommodation for travellers. Operated under the Holiday Inn brand, the hotel comprises 129 bedrooms. This ample capacity is made up of a combination of spacious twin, double and executive rooms, plus a number luxurious suites catering for the numerous business travellers that already utilise the airport for private jet flights.
