59 steps is all it takes to get from the terminal at Southend Airport to the new railway station with direct services straight into London
Ideally situated between the beautiful English Lake District, the Scottish Border Country and the North Pennines, Carlisle Lake District Airport has huge potential as a tourist gateway into this extremely popular area. The region has long awaited development of an airport serving the needs of the 9.6m visitors to Hadrian’s Wall* and 15.8m visiting the Lake District*, as well as the Cumbrian and Borders community itself.
Historically, the region has been noteworthy for its lack of access by air, with the nearest airport being some 70 miles away. Plans for development will ultimately see Carlisle form an important northern link for scheduled services to and from London Southend Airport.
Improvement plans for Carlisle will also see the development of a strategic Northern transport centre serving Scotland and the Borders region for Eddie Stobart, securing local jobs and providing significant additional employment for the area.
