DfT Announce ‘£33 million boost for hauliers with longer lorries trial’

STOBART GROUP STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO DfT ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY:

Commenting on the news from Roads Minister Mike Penning today, that hauliers will be allowed to use longer trailers under plans to boost growth, William Stobart, Stobart Group Chief Operating Officer, said: "We welcome today's news that the Department for Transport will undertake a trial of longer high-volume trailers. Eddie Stobart has long campaigned the benefits of longer trailers and the environmental benefits they bring fit well within Stobart Group's policy of developing sustainable distribution solutions.”

He added: “Eddie Stobart has already undertaken significant evaluation of two key sizes of trailers and we see considerable opportunities for the metre option within our operations. Neither extended length option results in a larger turning circle or increased weight compared to existing draw-bar trailers on the roads today, and we believe the new trailers will help take trucks off the road, reduce carbon emissions from the industry and we are looking forward to seeing the operational and environmental benefits the trial will bring."
