Eddie Stobart is the iconic name behind a huge road haulage fleet of over 2,500 tractor units
A Stobart Group sponsored raceday at Newmarket last week was held in memory of the late Edward Stobart. The Edward Stobart Tribute Raceday helped celebrate Edward’s life and his achievements within the haulage industry. The Group also used the event to promote the upcoming series two of Eddie Stobart: Trucks & Trailers and to engage with its club members.
It was a great opportunity for Stobart Fan Club Members to get introduced to, and more involved with, horse racing – a sport that Stobart Group has committed to this season. Official club members received free tickets to the meeting at Newmarket and over 500 took the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the stars of the Eddie Stobart documentary – both drivers and trucks.
The Stobart shop attended the event and was overwhelmed by sales as members and public alike snapped up model trucks, Stobart clothing and mementoes from the day.
The raceday hosted two feature races, the Stobart Group King Charles II Stakes and the Eddie Stobart Stakes, which were televised live on Channel 4. In addition, the Eddie Stobart drivers at the event helped present the awards to the winners of the Stobart Chilled Handicap Stakes.
Andrew Tinkler, Stobart Group chief executive, said: “It’s been a great day at Newmarket and a very fitting way to celebrate Edward’s achievements – he was a keen supporter of racing. I was also pleased to see a large turn-out of Stobart Club Members and it was a good opportunity for them to meet the drivers involved with the TV documentary and to help promote the new series.”
