Exchange Square, Broadgate, City of London, 14 November 2013 – London Southend Airport has been named proud sponsor of the Broadgate Ice Rink in the heart of the City of London – the capital’s longest running outdoor ice rink, which celebrates its 28th year in 2013.
London Southend Airport is part of the Stobart Group, and on hand to help officially launch the Broadgate Ice Rink this week was long-time Stobart supporter, Chico Slimani. Chico took to the ice and demonstrated his Dancing On Ice skills with an aviation-inspired performance, in keeping with the London Southend Airport theme of the rink, which is now open until the 27th of February 2014.
Chico said: “I have been a supporter of Stobart since I met Andrew Tinkler and William Stobart following my X-Factor appearances. I love to spot their Eddie Stobart trucks when touring the UK, and I am a very big fan of their recent venture – London Southend Airport. I was delighted when they asked me to come along to the opening night of the London Southend Airport sponsored ice rink here in the City. It’s going to be Southend-on-Ski all the way for me this winter!”
London Southend Airport operations director, David Lister, said: “Over £120 million has been invested in London Southend Airport by owners Stobart Group since it was acquired in 2008. New facilities include a train station on the London Liverpool Street service, terminal building and 4-star Holiday Inn – and to support the airport’s rapid growth, work on a £10 million extension to the terminal is now underway. The airport is a huge success, growing passenger numbers to well over a million in its first year, winning a number of prestigious awards and accolades such as the recent Which? survey naming us Britain’s Best Airport, and offering a really compelling range of destinations from popular sunshine and business routes, plus transatlantic connectivity to the USA via Dublin. We hope the sponsorship of Broadgate Ice Rink will help us promote the simply easier service the airport offers to a broader London audience.”
Located adjacent to Liverpool Street Station, complete with airport themed check-in desks for ice skate hire, boarding passes for tickets and a dedicated bar and restaurant, ‘BAR BBQ on Ice’ (www.barbbqonice.com) the Broadgate Ice Rink in association with London Southend Airport is open daily from 10am until 10pm with tickets available at www.broadgate.co.uk/iceor via the box office telephone: 0845 653 1424.
