General Distribution Division
|
Eddie Stobart’s total general primary fleet consists of around 1,300 modern 44 tonne articulated units; with 50% complying with stringent Euro 4 emissions standards; and in excess of 2,600 trailers; each with a 28 tonne carrying capacity.
Running under both a number of its client's liveries and the Company's own iconic green colours, Eddie Stobart General Distribution's road freight capacity is impressive.
The fleet benefits from a highly trained team of drivers with one of the best safety records in the business and are serviced by a comprehensive national network of around 40 depots.

Resources are augmented by Stobart's huge warehouse facilities, located at key transport hubs across the UK, Ireland and Europe and backed up by the absorption of the additional fleet capacity of James Irlam and O'Connor.

James Irlam
The acquisition of James Irlam by the Stobart Group heralded a new era for the business as part of the United Kingdom’s leading transport and logistics group.
Acquired in April 2008, James Irlam delivers exceptional standards of service and efficiency carrying a wide range of full and shared loads between Manchester, Leeds and London.
James Irlam will become fully integrated into Eddie Stobart by March 2009, replacing the well recognised red Irlam units with Euro 4 and Euro 5 compliant tractors operating under the green Eddie Stobart livery.
The move to the new livery brings numerous benefits. Irlam trailers will form part of the unified Group trailer pool; allowing maximum utilisation and reducing wasteful ‘empty miles’.
As part of Eddie Stobart, Irlam activities now also benefit from its highly effective training programme and leading edge IT and GPS tracking systems, which will further improve the already efficient operations. |

Innovation on the road
As a leader in innovation Eddie Stobart is constantly striving for maximum fleet utilisation and the most efficient answers to the requirements of a fleet that is used for a wide variety of road freight.
Many Stobart trailers operating on behalf of Tesco and other retailers have been designed to allow use of cages.
The side retainer bars, essential for load safety, are designed to be removable, allowing the unit to be switched over to a palletised load quickly and with no loss of capacity.
